Information on Northern Inuit Dogs, or other similar breeds?
Well, Inuits are similar to huskies...which I own and one thing I will say is that you really -should- get a puppy because when people say they are difficult to train, that's an understatement so if they are older dogs and have grown into some bad habits, you will really struggle. Not only that, if they go to a new owner, they will REALLY test your patience. I'm not saying you're incompetent or anything remotely like that, but I figured "How hard could it really be?" before I got mine, and trust me, they are a nightmare. I had to have them trained professionally starting at 9 weeks old because they were SO stubborn and destructive. Don't get me wrong, I love them and once they do learn the rules, they're great with both strangers and kids alike but until you get one, nothing will prepare you for exactly how bad they can be and if that gets out of hand, they will be near impossible to train. They're also good with other dogs though, providing you properly socialise them and stuff. They do need a lot of exercise and have energy to burn, even after three walks a day and being allowed to run in the garden in between these walks...so the second they become bored, they start destroying things. They chewed holes in my wall that go straight through to the brick so I can't emphasize enough how much research you must do before you get one and you may have to be prepared to pay out for a dog trainer. They learn quickly but as I say, they do push the boundaries to see how much they can get away with so you have to be very persistent. It's worth it because they are very loyal and friendly once their training is sorted out =)
