Can someone who's really good with dogs give me some advice?

Don't be nervous around the dog because they'll notice. If the dog comes up to you, let him sniff you by sticking your hand out a little bit,it's like their handshake. After he sniffs you and seems comfortable around you scratch the lower part of the back near the base of the tail and you'll be his best friend for life.
