Is this a hermit crab? Info maybe?

I just came to sunny Florida for vacation, I found a crab a bit bigger than an eyeball. It looks really exotic, ill try to add a pic later, it has like punk kind of hair sticking out where the shell ends and it has furry claws. It also lives underwater. It's kinda yellow white kind of I guess, o and I found it in the gulf of mexico, can u tell me if this is even a hermit crab, what does it eat or and how long does it live. Some websites would be helpful too! Thxx
